Valve and E3 2021 PC Gaming Show? Yes.

The PC Gaming Show at E3 is just around the corner, and Valve is scheduled to make their first appearance at E3 since 2012.

There are many rumors currently floating around, but as of right now all we know is that there will be a message from Valve “regarding Steam Next Fest” according to PC Gamer. No other details are given, but we can certainly speculate.

This would be the first time since 2012 Valve has attended E3, and the first time they’ve been on the PC Gaming Show. Given the rarity of Valve attending E3, this is a big deal.

What can we expect from Valve at E3 2021?

First, this most likely has to do with Steam Next Fest, given the message they’re set to deliver. Steam Next Fest, previously known as Steam Game Festival, is a multi-day celebration of upcoming games. You can play games, watch livestreams from the developers, and chat about games in progress.

Second, there are rumors about a possible Valve and Xbox partnership. In a since deleted Reddit post, and according to Ars Technica, Gabe Newell was asked, “Will Steam be porting any games on consoles, or will it just stay on PC?”. Gabe reportedly said, “You will get a better idea of that by the end of this year… and it won’t be the answer you expect,”. Should we expect some type of Microsoft and Valve partnership? Steam on Xbox?

Third, we might expect some type of “SteamPal” related announcement. This is supposedly a portable gaming PC that Valve has been secretly building. According to Ars Technica, multiple sources have confirmed that this device has been in development for quite some time. However, recent developments point to this being less likely than we might think. Previously, Valve was set to deliver a message “regarding Steam”. That message has since been updated to a message “regarding Steam Next Fest”.

The truth is, we don’t really know what to expect. Valve is being predictably cryptic. The only thing in common is that we’ve heard of multiple things coming later this year.

  1. Not going to get my hopes up for Half-Life 3, but Steam and Xbox live sharing some stuff could be good
